General Information

  • Opening hours
    9.30 - 1.00 & 1.30 - 5.00 Wednesday and Thursday. Books and other media can ONLY be borrowed during these hours. Journals are STRICTLY not available for loan.
  • Membership
    The staff of the Wisdom Services based on site and in the community. HSE staff in the ID services and the tutors and registered students of St. Angela's College may also borrow items. Other HSE staff are welcome to use the library but may only borrow items at the librarian's discretion.
  • Loan periods
    Books can be borrowed for 2 weeks. Users may borrow 4 books.

Library Stock

  • Books and journals
    The library stocks books and journals covering both general nursing studies and specialised care approaches for people with an intellectual disability. There is also literature to support the FETAC Healthcare Support Certificate Course offered by the CNME (HSE-NW). The library currently subscribes to 25 journals both professional and academic, 12 of which specialise in research and issues concerning people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Assessments
    The library has a range of assessment materials including forms, charts and manuals. These are available only to staff members and students on internship.
  • Teaching packs
    A collection of teaching pack materials is being established.
  • Reports
    There is a small collection of reports from various Irish government departments, the HSE, National Disability Authority and other relevant organisations. Also reports such as the SLÁN surveys and the NIDD reports.

Facilities

  • Computing
    The library has one PC with internet access. For internet use only at busy times.
  • Photocopying
    There is one photocopier located in the library. Copies are priced at 5c for one A4 print. Please pay the librarian after completing your copying.
  • Databases
    Library members can access CINAHL, the Nursing Standard archive and the Cochrane Library using the library PC. Please ask the librarian to log you on to these databases.
  • Printing
    Printing from the internet is priced at 10c per A4 sheet. Please pay the librarian after printing.
  • Electronic journals
    The library currently offers access to a limited selection of full-text articles from the following - British Journal of Developmental Disabilities, Nursing Standard and Learning Disability Practice.
  • Inter-Library Loans
    Journal articles, books and theses can be obtained on inter-library loan. All requests are directed via the Research and Education Centre Library at Sligo General Hospital. Cost, journal article €5.00, book/thesis €10.00. This service is only available to staff members.
