Community Service Team
Our first community house opened in 1983. In total there are now 13 residences located throughout Sligo town and county providing a home for 69 service users. We cater for men and women with a moderate degree of learning difficulty. They range in age from 34-62 years.
Our aims and objectives are both to ensure as homelike an environment as possible and the inclusion of our service users in community life. We aim to give everybody a say in their day-to-day lives and to offer choices. The range of social and recreational activities enjoyed by our service users include: theatre and cinema, pottery classes, horse riding, swimming, badminton and dancing. Our service users have also travelled within Ireland and abroad for weekends away and longer holidays and to also participate in sporting events.
All individuals are directly involved in the daily running of their home for example menu planning, weekly shopping and housekeeping.
A new addition to our Community Service is the bungalow Drumcliff. Situated in Gortarowey, County Sligo this new home has been specially developed for a small group of service users previously resident on campus.
The house has been specifically designed in accordance with their person centred plans and provides spacious living areas that include a Snoezelen room, activity room, computer room and sun room.
The outdoor area has a pond, a polytunnel, basketball net, trampoline and a large sensory garden. The service users enjoy both using their trike in the locality and walks on the beach and woods. They are benefiting greatly from the tranquillity of the local surroundings.
