A word from our existing volunteers

Cynthia Ryan

Cynthia signed up as a volunteer over 2 years ago at Wisdom Service, Cregg House. She was matched with Kathleen a service user at Cregg. Their friendship has gone from strength to strength.

Both ladies, from Sligo, meet up twice weekly, they go for walks, have coffee and enjoy each other’s company. It is often these simple things in life, taken for granted by the rest of us, that people with intellectual disabilities strive for, so that they can live full and satisfying lives as equal citizens in their community.
“When I volunteer it makes me happy to know that I am doing something to make someone else happy. You know you are doing a good job when you are greeted with a big smile, Miss Cynthia, every time you arrive, I don’t think I could ever explain and convey the whole value and worth of volunteering, everyone should do it”

Vincent

Hi, my name is Vincent. I am a new volunteer at Wisdom Services Cregg House. My motivation for volunteering is to give back to my local community skills I have acquired throughout my life that can benefit and enhance the lives of others. As I was a driver in my own profession, I put myself forward as a bus driver. I currently volunteer three times a week and take service users out for spins, walks and coffee in the community. The delight, enjoyment and gratitude of the service users face’s is heart warming and fulfilling for me. I look forward every day to returning to Cregg as a volunteer.
“To see the excitement and enjoyment on people’s faces when I come driving the bus to pick    them up for their outing makes me a very important friend”
